Pablo Torre has had to endure a frustrating debut season at FC Barcelona. Signed from Racing Santander in the summer of last year as one of the most exciting young attacking midfielders in Spain, the 19-year-old has been unable to carve out a spot for himself at Camp Nou.
The competition for places and the quality and form of midfielders like Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, and Gavi have been a major roadblock for Torre to get any kind of regular run in Xavi’s team.
At the same time, though, the teenager is understood to be reluctant to play for Barça Atletic, something that has raised concerns within the club over his attitude.
It was thought that Pedri’s recent injury against Manchester United last week could open up the door of opportunities for Torre at Barcelona.
But, he did not play even a single minute against Cadiz this past weekend, even though he was asked to warm up by the manager before being sent back to the bench.
Naturally, the experience can be a frustrating one for a player. But according to Santi Ovalle, Torre is calm about the situation and has transmitted the same to his team despite what happened during the game against Cadiz.
The 19-year-old considers it as just another game and is hoping to get minutes under Xavi in the upcoming matches.
It is even claimed that the youngster did a double session in training yesterday so that he can be ready for when the manager calls on him.
Barcelona will play matches against relegation battlers UD Almeria and Valencia over the coming weeks in La Liga. And Xavi could consider handing Torre minutes in those games so that he can keep his frontline midfielders fresh for other, more significant clashes.
Barça beat arch-rivals Real Madrid to sign Torre in the summer window. And while things have not gone according to plans for the 19-year-old thus far, he remains hopeful of turning things around in the coming weeks.
