Barcelona president Joan Laporta interacted with the media earlier today, where he outlined the objectives for the team for the remainder of the campaign. During the chat, the club supremo also spoke about the Super League as well as the Espai Barça project.
Stressing what manager Xavi Hernandez had said in his interview yesterday, Laporta insisted that winning the La Liga title will be the absolute priority for Barcelona once the season resumes.
In the sporting arena, we will go out to compete for everything. Barcelona’s priority objective is La Liga. It is crystal clear. The dressing room is clear about that. And the truth is that we have a very competitive team. In the summer we already did the work with the economic levers,” he said, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo.
“We want to win the League to show that the recovery process is going well,” he added.
With Laporta putting a lot into the Espai Barça project, the contracts for the renovation project are yet to be handed out. During this undertaking, the Catalan giants will be playing their home games away at Montjuic as Camp Nou undergoes a transformation.
And the club president insisted that the situation regarding the same will be made clear in the coming months, while also adding that Barcelona plan on returning to Camp Nou in the autumn of 2024.
“In the next few months, you will know who will be awarded the Espai Barça. You will be informed precisely. It is a priority for the club. We plan to return to Camp Nou in autumn 2024,” Laporta clarified.
Finally, the Barcelona president also spoke about the European Super League project as well as the recent setback it had received from the stance of the European Union Court of Justice.
“What Luxembourg says about the Super League will be very important as far as European football is concerned. We want to improve the competition and we want to see a reform of the governance model,” Laporta stressed
It will mean a before and after in European football. What the Bosman ruling was for the players, this will be for the clubs. There will be a resolution in the spring.”
