Memphis Depay is one of the players worth keeping an eye on as we close in on the January transfer window.
The Barcelona forward was tipped to leave the club in the summer, but the move did not materialise and he ended up staying at Camp Nou. However, after a difficult start to the season, many expect him to leave the club next month.
Depay’s performances during the FIFA World Cup have only catapulted the interest of other clubs across Europe, and according to AS, Galatarasay are among the teams keen on securing his services next month.
The Turkish giants are currently looking for reinforcements in the attacking department. Their main striker Haris Seferovic is not happy with his lack of role in the first team. Mauro Icardi is also likely to return to Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season while Bafetimbi Gomis’ contract expires in 2023 as well.
It has accentuated the need for a new forward, with Depay emerging as one of the options. The report suggests that Galatasaray vice-president Erden Timur has contacted the Barcelona forward’s representative over a potential move to Istanbul after the turn of the year.
But the situation is proving to be quite tricky as Depay has appeared very calm about his future and has no real desire to leave Barcelona. The player is aware of the fact that his contract expires at the end of the season, when he may get a more lucrative offer.
There are also suggestions that Depay is waiting to join a bigger club that can offer him the Champions League.
Not to mention, the Dutchman’s salary demands are too high for a club that Galatasaray, who have not enjoyed the best of times in the Turkish leagues in recent years.
