Chelsea leading race to sign Barcelona, Manchester United striker target

Robert Lewandowski may be successfully leading Barcelona’s charge in attack this season, but there are doubts as to how long he can keep his high level going. At the age of 34, that period does not seem too long.

Barcelona are thus already on the lookout for a long-term replacement are Youssoufa Moukoko is one of the hottest names on that list.

The German International is one of the Bundesliga’s hottest properties and is expected to make a move away from Borussia Dortmund in the coming months.

Ben Jacobs brings to light the transfer situation of the Barcelona target and reveals that several top Premier League sides are also eyeing him as an immediate reinforcement.

The player’s contract with the German club ends in the summer, yet, several parties are willing to let go of his availability on a free transfer and sign him as early as January.

Chelsea are reportedly leading the race and increasingly committed after Armando Broja’s injury.

Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspurs are also admirers of the player and would not mind pursuing him in the winter. However, much like Barcelona, they prefer signing him in the summer on a free transfer.

Dortmund are now in a tricky situation, for they do not wish to lose such a prodigal talent on a free transfer. They want Moukoko to extend his deal but could be tempted to accept an offer in January if the German refuses to accept a renewal.

As for Barcelona, the Catalans must take proactive steps if they are to sign the striker. However, financial constraints may just mean that the La Liga leaders are biting off more than they can chew.

Moukoko has six goals and three assists in 22 games for the Bundesliga side this season. Further, he averages 0.5 key passes and close to two shots per game.
