Barcelona’s interest in Borussia Dortmund’s Youssoufa Moukoko is no more a secret. The team from Catalonia has been following his growth trajectory for some time now and if a recent report from SPORT is to be believed, the player must ignore offers from the English Premier League if he is really serious about Barcelona in the summer.
Moukoko, 18, has a contract with Borussia Dortmund until 2023 and it is understood that the player is keen on making a move. In that regard, not only Barcelona but several other Premier League sides are keeping a tab on his situation
Barcelona know striking a deal won’t be easy, but one thing acting in their favour is the fact that the player wants to see out his ongoing deal and wants to depart on a free transfer. This was confirmed by his agent, Patrick Williams, who said,
“I can confirm that, for now, we are not close to an agreement on a new contract with Borussia Dortmund. Moukoko is interesting for all the clubs in the world, especially if he’s available on a free transfer,” he said.
It is believed that the player and the German team are separated by a huge margin. As SPORT claims, the representatives of the 18-year-old are demanding €5/6 million per year and Dortmund are reluctant to pay the amount.
As for Barcelona, while they do understand that the player wants to take a decision quickly, they would only study his option if it comes on a free transfer.
And for that, Moukoko, too, will have to put in some effort by ignoring all the options that come along his way, especially from the Premier League, where teams like Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United are reported to be interested in January moves.
Apart from that, the player must also overlook any approach made by Dortmund to renew his ongoing deal or sell him in January itself in order to generate some revenue.
So if the player indeed wants to play for Barcelona, he must wait until summer to don the royal blue of Blaugrana.
