With Barcelona’s financial situation not at its best, the club will continue to look for free transfer opportunities to bolster their squad next summer.
It has led to links with several players whose contracts expire in 2023 such as N’Golo Kante, Jorginho, Ilkay Gundogan, and Inigo Martinez, among several others.
And according to German publication Frankfurter Rundschau, Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Daichi Kamada is another player who is on the radars of Barcelona.
The 26-year-old is in the final year of his contract with the Bundesliga club but has no desire to prolong his stay. It has put teams on alert over his potential availability as a free agent in the summer transfer window.
And Barcelona are said to be one among the interested parties, along with Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund and another unnamed top European club.
Barça are looking to reinforce their midfield unit next summer, although the priority is believed to be a player who can replace club captain Sergio Busquets, who recently announced his retirement from international football.
Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi has been earmarked as the target to take over from the 34-year-old veteran. At the same time, though, the Blaugrana are looking for another interior midfielder to add more creative presence in the centre of the park.
Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva has been on the agenda for a long time, but finances could prevent the deal from happening. That is where someone like Kamada could enter the fray as a cost-effective option who is versatile and would be available for free.
It remains to be seen if the reports of interest in the Japanese international lead to anything substantial or whether they just fly by as another passing rumour.
The Blaugrana are also looking at Morocco and Angers SCO midfielder Azzedine Ounahi as another possible low-cost option to strengthen their midfield unit.
