As we get closer and closer to the January transfer window, Barcelona are facing several issues with their plans to strengthen the squad.
With the Financial Fair Play issues plaguing them again, the Blaugrana, as of now, are unable to sign any players and Xavi is working under the assumption that there will be no incomings at Camp Nou next month.
But things could change in case the Catalans are able to make a few sales and reduce the salaries of some of their players. To that end, Memphis Depay is one player who has been constantly linked with an exit from Barcelona ahead of the January transfer window.
The 28-year-old has fallen out of favour under Xavi this season and has struggled to get regular game-time as a result.
Barça were willing to let him leave for free in the summer. But given the financial situation, that option is no longer on the table and the La Liga leaders will only sanction his transfer if a club is willing to pay a fee for the Dutchman, whose contract expires in six months.
And according to SPORT, the only club who have come forward so far and are willing to pay a transfer fee to sign Memphis Depay in January are Galatasaray.
The Turkish giants are intent on signing the Netherlands international and would be ready to shell out a fee for his services in the upcoming winter window.
However, as per the report, Depay is not sold over the possibility of plying his trade in the Turkish Super Lig and is reluctant to move to Galatasaray.
Furthermore, the report adds that the former Manchester United star wants the club to give him a letter of freedom so that he can join a different team as a free agent and earn a hefty contract. Barcelona, though, are no longer considering that option.
Depay is set to meet with Xavi to discuss his future next week. With Chelsea also said to be showing an interest in the 28-year-old, it remains to be seen how the situation develops over the coming weeks.
