Leo Messi’s Argentina book World Cup semifinal spot after stunning penalty shoot-out win

Argentina have beaten Netherlands in a stunning penalty shoot-out to reach the World Cup semifinal.

Nahuel Molina had put the Albiceleste ahead after a sublime pass from Lionel Messi on the edge of the box before Messi doubled the lead from the penalty spot.

The Dutch, however, refused to give in without a fight, scoring two late goals heading to extra time and, eventually, penalties.

Virgil van Dijk’s miss seemed to have decided the outcome of the shoot-out. Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez deserves kudos too.

There are two more games left for Leo Messi to win the coveted trophy. Next up, Argentina face off Croatia on Tuesday, December 13.
