A recent report from Mundo Deportivo has offered an update on the future of Hector Bellerin, who has been the subject of intense speculation over his future in recent weeks.
Although many expect the right-back to be offloaded in the upcoming January transfer window, it appears there is a growing possibility that the player may end up remaining at Camp Nou until the end of the season.
Bellerin has no shortage of suitors, with AS Roma and Real Betis among the clubs interested in his services. As per the report, there are clubs from the Premier League who have sounded out the possibility of signing him in January.
However, a return to the Premier League might not be a possibility for Bellerin. This is because Barcelona do not have much hope for the English clubs going through with their interest in the player and snapping him up in January.
The club itself are now exploring the idea of keeping Bellerin beyond January, knowing they have a shortage of options in the right-back department
Indeed, Barça have struggled in the right-back unit this season, especially with Ronald Araujo suffering from an injury. Sergi Roberto has had a mixed season whereas Bellerin is yet to establish himself as a first-team regular under Xavi Hernandez.
But despite the Spaniard’s struggles, he may end up remaining at Camp Nou until his contract expires at the end of the season. Apart from the lack of options, Bellerin’s relatively lower wages might play a crucial role in forcing Barcelona to do so, as the player’s departure will not alter the club’s financial structure that much.
Hence, a return to the Premier League might not be on the horizon for Bellerin just yet, though the former Arsenal starlet is certainly free to choose his own destiny after the end of the season.
