Sergio Busquets’ last dance in football has not quite ended in the way he would have wanted it to as Spain have been knocked out from the 2022 World Cup on penalties against Morocco.
After 0-0 in 120 minutes, Spain vs Morocco headed to penalties, where La Roja could not convert a single penalty. Pablo Sarabia hit his spot kick onto to the right post, while Carlos Soler and Sergio Busquets’ penalty was stopped heroically by Sevilla keeper Bono.
Unai Simon could only do so much, stopping one out of Morocco’s four penalties. Eventually, Achraf Hakimi converted the winning kick through a panenka.
Also incredible to note Bono went the correct way for all of Spain’s shots, making some fantastic saves through the two hours of play.
Spain have no one but themselves to blame for this exit, creating little to no chances against a Moroccan side that have emerged as the true dark horses of the World Cup.
