Spain are set to meet Morocco tomorrow in the Round of 16 stage of the FIFA World Cup, with the European giants hoping to book a place in the quarter-finals.
One of the protagonists for La Roja will be Gavi, who has become an essential figure in Luis Enrique’s midfield setup. His performances in the middle of the park, coupled with his energy and efficiency have been key in helping Spain emerge as one of the favourites in the tournament.
Even members of the Spanish national team have been openly supportive of the youngster’s performances.
And, in a recent media interaction, one of Spain’s most experienced players in Koke has joked about Gavi over recent speculations of Princess Leonor, the elder daughter of King Felipe VI of Spain, having a crush on the 18-year-old.
“He’s a spectacular guy, we’ve asked him if he’s going to invite us to a barbecue with the King. Can you imagine Gavi giving the Christmas speech?” he said while speaking to COPE.
Koke’s comments are direct references to the recent speculations that emerged earlier this week when it was revealed that the princess had pictures of the Barcelona midfielder in her folder.
Leonor is the princess of Asturia and is the heir presumptive to the King of Spain Felipe VI and Queen Letizia.
King Felipe VI was in Qatar and reportedly met with the Spain players after their 7-0 win over Costa Rica, during which he received a signed shirt from Gavi, which was speculated to be for Princess Leonor.
Gavi will be focused on getting Spain over the line in the ongoing World Cup. La Roja are set to face Morocco tomorrow evening at the Education City Stadium in the Round of 16.
