Robert Lewandowski had an incredibly tough time against France tonight as Poland geared up against the defending champions for the round-of-16 clash. For the first 45, the Polish side looked far better than they had been for the rest of the tournament, coming close to scoring on several occasions.
Olivier Giroud opened the scoring for France against the run of play in the first-half, and Kylian Mbappe took the game by the scruff of its neck in the second to score two sensational goals to take the scoreline to 3-0.
In the 96th-minute, though, Poland had the chance to score a consolation goal as the ball hit Dayot Upamecano’s hand. Robert Lewandowski stepped up to take the spot kick, but missed it horribly.
Fortunately for him, the officials spotted Hugo Lloris off his line during the run-up to the kick, and it was retaken. This time around, though, Lewy made no mistake, slotting it into the bottom left corner.
