In the hopes of signing players in the January transfer window, Barcelona will have to continue the slashing of their squad. Unfortunately for some, it means the end of their Catalan tenure before it even has begun.
Of course, the player in question is Franck Kessie. After signing for Barcelona for free in the summer, the Ivorian has failed to make a mark on the team. He has gone from being the first-choice midfielder at AC Milan to competing with Pablo Torre for a place.
Keeping in mind his vulnerable game-time situation, several top clubs are keeping their tabs on the player. Fulham and Aston Villa were quoted with interest, with the two clubs considering bids worth €22 million and €14 million, respectively.
However, there seems to yet another suitor in the race, as reported by Fabrizio Romano, and relayed by Mundo Deportivo. The Italian journalist claims that Tottenham Hotspur are keeping tabs on Kessie after failing to sign in the summer.
Kessie’s agent has made it clear a fair few times at this point that Kessie has no intention of leaving Barcelona.
Franck has never been as happy as he is now. He has achieved a goal that for many footballers remains just a dream, which is to play for Barcelona, and I defy anyone to say otherwise,” Atangana, Kessie’s agent said.
“Franck is adapting to a type of football that is new to him, he has always played in a different way. But this is certainly not what frightens him, on the contrary, these are all stimuli that are part of a process of growth,” he added.
Even if Barcelona are to put up Kessie on sale this January, it seems unlikely that they will be able to fetch more than €15-20 odd million for him. And while that is a profit, it is still largely less than what he is worth, on ability.
