Franck Kessie was one of the many players who joined Barcelona in the summer transfer window. The Ivorian joined the club on a free transfer, signing a deal until 2026.
Even though Kessie was hailed as a crucial addition to the Barcelona midfielder, the player has ended up as one of the biggest flops in the new season, having struggled to establish himself as a first-team star.
So far this campaign, Kessie is one of the least used players by Xavi Hernandez. He has featured in just over 200 minutes of league football. As such, the club are open to offloading him in the upcoming January transfer window, reports Diario AS.
The report suggests Barcelona are looking for a fee of around €10 million for Kessie. They are ready to offload the midfielder for such a low figure as the player had joined the club on a free transfer. It appears they are more inclined to reduce his €5 million a year salary from his wage bill.
From a sporting perspective, Xavi will not rue the departure of Kessie as he has other players he can count upon. Sergi Roberto is an experienced star, who can serve as an option during the remainder of the campaign while Pablo Torre is waiting in the wings.
However, the report adds that Kessie’s departure might not be imminent and is subject to official offers. Premier League has been mooted as a potential destination, with Aston Villa among the clubs reportedly interested in his services.
Aston Villa manager Unai Emery may welcome the addition of a physically astute midfielder such as Kessie, who himself is not happy with his life at Barcelona and would be open to a move away from Camp Nou in January.
