Barcelona have shown a renewed focus on signing young talents from within Spain and across Europe in recent windows. Pedri was bought in 2019, and the club have since signed talents like Nil Ruiz, Fabio Blanco, and Emre Demir.
Last summer also marked the arrival of Pablo Torre from Racing Santander, with the Catalans beating arch-rivals Real Madrid to the young midfielder’s signing.
Now, according to MARCA, Barcelona and Real Madrid could be set for another El Clasico battle for the signing of 19-year-old Spanish prodigy Javi Guerra Moreno.
The teenage midfielder joined Valencia’s youth setup from Villarreal in 2019 and has since made steady progress in the lower ranks of Spanish football.
Javi Guerra has made just one senior appearance for Los Che but has been a regular for their B team this season, notching up 12 appearances in which he has a goal and an assist.
A central midfielder who is capable of playing as a No. 6 or a No. 8, Guerra has displayed good all-round abilities on and off the ball, enough to attract the interest of heavy hitters like Barcelona and Real Madrid.
The report indicates that Barcelona had members of the club scouting the teenage midfielder in Valencia B’s recent encounter against Espanyol B at the Dani Jarque Sports City.
Guerra’s contract with Valencia expires in 2023, making him an attractive commodity in the market. However, Los Che are keen on handing him a renewal as they believe he can become a first-team member at the club and his value can grow multifold in the future.
To that end, they have intensified negotiations over an extension and have tabled a long-term contract offer. But with Barcelona, as well as Real Madrid waiting in the wings, it remains to be seen if Guerra wants to remain at Valencia beyond this season.
