Barcelona misfit not offered to Serie A clubs amid contrary claims – report

Franck Kessie has endured a difficult time since joining FC Barcelona in the summer. Arriving as a free agent after his contract with AC Milan expired, the 25-year-old has struggled to carve out a place for himself in Xavi Hernandez’s plans at Spotify Camp Nou.

So far this term, Kessie has started just five of the 20 matches Barcelona have played across all competitions this season, missing a few games due to injuries.

As things stand, the Ivory Coast international finds himself behind Pedri, Gavi, Frenkie de Jong and Sergio Busquets in the pecking order at Barcelona, with his game-time unlikely to see a major improvement.

It has given way to speculations that Kessie could be ready to move back to Italy in January. In the past, it was reported that he had been offered to former club AC Milan, while the midfielder’s agent has reportedly offered him to Inter Milan more recently.

But, according to a fresh update from Daniele Longo of Calciomercato, Kessie has not been offered to AC Milan nor to any other Serie A outfit.

This update is more in line with what Kessie’s agent, George Atangana, had said in the past, insisting that the midfielder was not considering leaving Barcelona midway through the campaign.

“Kessie is very happy at Barça and at Barcelona. He’s only been at the club for a few months and he’s still in the process of adapting to the team and the Barça style of play, which has nothing to do with the rest of the clubs, and, therefore, it takes time,” he had said.

“Kessie will continue working to earn a place on the team. He is not a player who gives up easily. He had other offers in the summer and bet heavily on Barça.”

While Kessie might not be actively looking for an exit at this point, things could change due to Barcelona’s dire situation with regard to Financial Fair Play.

The Catalans need to make cuts into their wage bill to incorporate new players in January. And given that he is one of the players who does not feature prominently in Xavi’s plans at the moment, his situation at Spotify Camp Nou could change between now and January.
