Barcelona prodigy misses team training with Spain after sustaining knock vs Germany

According to Ferran Martinez of Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona and Spain midfield prodigy picked up a minor knock during the game against Germany, as a result of which he did not train with the rest of the team today.

The 18-year-old was one of La Roja’s standout performers in their FIFA World Cup 2022 opener against Costa Rica, where he scored a goal and dominated the proceedings throughout.

Having played the full game against Costa Rica, Gavi started against Germany as well and held his own against more senior and well-established midfield opponents like Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka and Ilkay Gundogan.

However, during one of the duels with an opponent, Gavi is believed to have suffered a knock, which may have played a part in his substitution last night.

While the issue is not serious, the Spain management does not want to take any risk and as a result, the 18-year-old was not asked to train with the remaining 25 members of the squad earlier today.

It is believed to be only a precautionary measure and nothing concerning though, with Gavi expected to be fit and available for Spain’s final group game against Japan on Thursday night.

Having won their opening game against Costa Rica 7-0, Spain were held to a 1-1 draw by Germany last night. Despite the result, Luis Enrique’s side remain at the top of Group E and are confident of qualifying for the knockout stages as group winners.

As for Gavi, the 18-year-old’s knock is not seen as a major concern at this point. And as things stand, the 2022 Golden Boy Award winner should be able to take the field when Spain face Japan in their final group match.
