Spain have begun their FIFA World Cup 2022 campaign in fine fashion as they are already 3-0 up against Costa Rica in their Group E encounter.
As many as five Barcelona players have started the match for La Roja and have been impressive, helping the team dominate from the kickoff.
A former La Masia ace in Dani Olmo opened the scoring just ten minutes in, with Gavi playing a key role in the buildup.
And minutes later, it was the turn of veteran full-back Jordi Alba to make an impact. Receiving the ball out wide, the left-back sent in a brilliant cross into the box for Marco Asensio to strike it home with a first-time effort and make it 2-0, burying Costa Rica in deep trouble.
It was a sumptuous finis from Asensio and Alba’s precise cross made it happen. There have been question marks about the veteran defender’s form and quality this season after he had dropped behind Alejandro Balde in the pecking order at Barcelona.
But, on the biggest stage, Alba showed that he is still very much capable of producing top-quality moments.
Soon after the second goal, another Barcelona player, Ferran Torres scored from the penalty spot, after Alba was fouled in the box, to put Spain further in control of the contest. If things continue like this, Costa Rica could be in for a long evening.
