Saudi Arabia with Herve Renard as their head coach are top of Group C at the World Cup after beating Argentina 2-1.
KSA were trailing at the break because Leo Messi scored a penalty and Renard was upset with the performance. But apparently, the head coach found the right words in the dressing room to inspire his team to the most unlikely result.
“We have a crazy coach,” said Saudi Arabia midfielder Abdulellah Al-Malki after the game. “He motivated us during half-time, telling us stuff that made us want to eat the grass and run ourselves into the ground.”
Unfortunately, we can’t know what exactly Renard told his players in the dressing room but we have footage from one of the previous Saudi Arabia games, presumably from a World Cup qualifier against Vietnam in 2021.
Saudi Arabia were 1-0 down at half-time after conceding a goal in the third minute [that’s what Renard points out in French at the start of the clip — Tribuna] but went on to win 3-1.
Just watch it and say if you’d be mentally prepared to run through brick walls for this man!
