With less than a week remaining until the start of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the Netherlands have been handed a major boost as Barcelona superstar Memphis Depay has been able to train with the team.
The forward was able to complete the entire training session with his teammates, including Denzel Dumfries, reported Telegraaf (h/t The European Lad).
This serves as a major boost for the Netherlands, who are expected to heavily rely on the services of Depay in the attacking department. The Barça frontman, after all, is one of their most experienced stars, having racked up 42 goals in 81 appearances.
With 116 minutes of league football, this has not been the best of seasons for Depay. But the Dutchman has had it difficult with injuries and lack of recognition in the first team. His return to the pitch, therefore, could be a welcome sign for Barça as well.
Meanwhile, other Netherlands players including another Barcelona superstar in the form of Frenkie de Jong were even able to remain on the pitch and participate in various shooting drills and a 4v4 session.
The presence of both Depay and de Jong could serve as a boost for the Oranje, who will be looking to make an impression in this World Cup after missing out on the last one.
As for Barcelona, the return of Depay and his potential performances in the World Cup could go a long way in helping them find a suitor for the attacker in the January transfer window.
De Jong, on the other hand, may not leave the club. But his return to form with the Dutch side could be useful, especially if he can keep up his momentum during the second half of the campaign. With Sergio Busquets nearing the end of his career, de Jong could be the one to take on the mantle of leading the Barça midfield in the years to come.
