Robert Lewandowski was sent off in the 31st minute of the game against Osasuna. His early exit left Barca to win the hard way against an opponent that set out to frustrate Xavi’s charges
What happened
Lewandowski received a needless yellow card 11 minutes into the game for pulling down Osasuna’s Nacho Vidal.
It was unnecessary, to say the least.
The second yellow card came about 20 minutes later for another reckless collision by Lewandowski.
The referee was quick to brandish a second yellow card for Lewandowski’s collision with the Osasuna player.
Was Lewy at fault?
Lewandowski was a little careless to collide with a player when he was already on a yellow card. His elbows were showing and the player made the most of it by holding his face.
Thus, the striker gave the referee an excuse to punish him and La Liga refs never pass up such a chance.
The 34-year-old probably didn’t set out to commit a foul, but his eyes were not on the ball and he left a player sprawling on the ground writhing in ‘pain’.
Lewandowski will now miss the game against Espanyol on December 31.
