Official: Barcelona starting lineup against Viktoria Plzen

Barcelona faced off against Viktoria Plzen on matchday one of the Champions League and came out of it with an impressive 5-1 win. Robert Lewandowski scored his first hat-trick for the Blaugrana, and instilled a belief into the fans for the UCL season.

It was not to be, though, as the Catalans drowned to the Europa League after being thrown into the deep end of the group stages. Now, they face one last opponent – Viktoria, again – in the competition before they start their journey in the second tier of continental football.

Lewandowski has been rested for this game, with Ferran Torres starting in his place through the centre. The Spaniard is flanked by a winger each to his left and right in the form of Ansu Fati and Raphinha, respectively.

The responsibility in midfield has been handed to Pablo Torre as the attacking eight, while Gavi starts as the box-to-box midfielder on the other side. Franck Kessie has been given the nod as the defensive midfielder.

By default, Gerard Pique has been given another lifeline to start in central defence, paired with Marcos AlonsoJordi Alba and Hector Bellerin continue duties as the full-backs on the left and right, respectively.

This back four has the job of screening Inaki Pena, who takes over the gloves from Marc-Andre ter Stegen today.
