Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has become an in-demand prospect in the transfer market in these final few weeks of August.
The speculations started with Chelsea, who were eyeing a late move for the Gabonese international. The player had worked with Thomas Tuchel at Borussia Dortmund in the past, and the German tactician was keen on a potential reunion.
Although Chelsea have not found much luck in their pursuit of Aubameyang, they remain in contention to sign the Barcelona forward by the end of the month.
A recent report from Gerard Romero has offered an update on the situation, suggesting even Manchester United have joined the race to sign the forward, who is facing an uncertain future at Barça, after the arrival of Robert Lewandowski.
The Polish international is set to become Barcelona’s number one forward for the new season. His experience and stellar goalscoring prowess should make him the undisputed leader of the Barcelona frontline.
It could, in turn, gravely affect the overall game time for Aubameyang, who was the club’s main forward earlier in the year. He even scored 13 goals for the club despite only coming to Camp Nou in the January transfer window.
Nevertheless, Aubameyang’s future at Barcelona remains under doubt as both Chelsea and Manchester United brace themselves for a potential bidding war over the Gabonese international.
The player has remained tight-lipped on his future for now, whereas Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez is not too keen on sanctioning his departure, knowing the former Dortmund starlet could prove to be an excellent alternative for Lewandowski.
However, there is no doubt Barcelona are under pressure to offload some of their stars in these coming weeks. And with that in mind, it will not come as a surprise to see Aubameyang leaving Camp Nou by the end of the month.
