Jordi Alba mocks Rayo Vallecano defender in Barcelona tunnel: “You never shut up”

Barcelona began their 2022/23 campaign on a disappointing note as they were held to a goalless draw by Rayo Vallecano at Spotify Camp Nou on Saturday night.

It was a closely-fought encounter and Rayo came out as the happier of the two teams as they managed to salvage a point against one of the strongest teams in the division on paper.

The game had its fair share of heated moments, with Robert Lewandowski seeing two penalty calls getting waved off by the referee, while Sergio Busquets also got sent off for a second yellow after landing an elbow on Radamel Falcao.

The tension between the players did not limit itself to moments on the pitch as footage from the tunnel has now surfaced in which Jordi Alba and Rayo Vallecano defender Ivan Balliu can be seen involved in a verbal spat.

As reported by Carrusel Deportivo, Alba was seen lashing out at the Rayo full-back, saying: “Balliu, listen to me, I know I talk too much, but you never shut up.”

Alba had a disappointing game on the night leading to questios over why Alejandro Balde was not handed a start over the veteran at left-back.

Speaking after the match, Balliu, who was involved in the verbal spat with Alba, admitted that the visitors had specifically targeted the veteran defender.

“We knew that we could create danger behind Jordi Alba, also with the aerial game, and we had worked the match to be able to attack in that area,” the Rayo Vallecano defender had said (h/t SPORT).

Following that game, there are question marks over Alba’s spot in the starting lineup according to Javi Miguel of AS. The-33-year-old will be looking to bounce back strongly against Real Sociedad in the upcoming game.
