Barcelona have sanctioned the loan deal of Alex Collado, who is set to join Elche for the 2022/23 campaign. The player has signed a season-long loan deal, with no purchase option included in the contract.
This was confirmed by an official statement from FC Barcelona, who are actively looking to send their young players out on loan after signing a slew of talented stars earlier in the summer.
Collado joins a long list of young Barcelona players, who have had to settle for a loan move elsewhere this summer. The list includes Nico Gonzalez, with the young midfielder recently joining Valencia on a loan deal, after signing a contract extension until 2026.
Collado is no stranger to loan deals either. During the backend of last season, he plied his trade for Granada, even featuring in 17 La Liga matches. He scored two goals and bagged an assist, although it was not enough to prevent Granada from the jaws of relegation.
Nevertheless, the young playmaker’s performances did not go unnoticed. Even Barcelona were considering retaining him as part of the first-team next season, as a potential backup for someone like Pedri or Gavi.
However, amid fierce competition, a move away from Collado appears to be the best option for the player
Elche CF are an exciting club that have the quality to compete for a finish in the top half of the league table this season.
They already have a star player in the form of Javier Pastore. The further addition of someone like Alex Collado can further enhance their ranks in the creative unit.
Barcelona, for their part, will be happy with the deal as the loan will help Collado gain more experience at the highest level of football. And with Elche having no purchase option, the player can always be an option for the future for Barcelona.
