Frenkie de Jong is a player who has divided opinions among Barcelona fans over the past few months.
The midfielder has been fiercely linked with a move away from Camp Nou, especially in light of his lucrative contract that has prevented the club from registering their new signings this summer.
However, Barça owe Frenkie a fortune through deferred salaries. And to add to that, the club are now hoping to offer him renewed terms that involve a salary cut.
In light of the de Jong negotiations, Barcelona supporters were recently spotted cussing the midfielder, urging him to take the pay cut.
However, a recent video has surfaced where a section of Barça fans are welcoming him at the Ciutat Esportiva with open arms. They are urging the midfielder not to leave, especially amid recent backlash from his own sets of fans.
Chants of “Stay with us, don’t leave” were heard just outside the Ciutat Esportiva today, which further complicates the player’s relationship with Barcelona fans.
Barça, on their part, have offered de Jong an ultimatum, suggesting the player should either take a 50% pay cut or leave Camp Nou in the coming days, as the cub are determined to reduce their wage budget and make way for their new signings.
De Jong is yet to respond, but it appears a definitive decision on the Dutchman’s future could be taken in the coming days.
