Chelsea are close to reaching a complete agreement with Barcelona over the transfer of Frenkie De Jong, per The Times.
Barcelona have stated that they want De Jong to stay, but they are opposed to keeping him on his current wage bill.
Latest reports claim the player doesn’t want to reduce his salary, which means Barca would be happy to sell him, particularly if his departure allows them to sign Bernardo Silva.
Manchester United were also interested in signing the player, but the notion is that he will only leave for a team playing Champions League football.
However, if De Jong refuses to leave and also refuses to take a pay cut, Barca would find themselves in a messy situation – which is likely to be settled in court
