Memphis Depay is ready to leave Barcelona, reports SPORT. Juventus are closing in on his signature, and have almost closed an agreement with the Catalan giants.
The Dutchman arrived at the club on a free transfer last summer and ended up becoming the team’s top scorer for the 2021/22 season, finishing with 13 goals in all competitions.
However, his stock dipped massively after Xavi’s arrival. The Spaniard asked the club to bring in Ferran Torres and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the winter window.
Then the Catalans went ahead to purchase Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski this summer, while also renewing Ousmane Dembele.
As such, Memphis has been asked to leave, but he wants to do it on his own terms. He has asked Barça to terminate his contract so he can negotiate with the club of his choosing without a third party involved.
The report suggests that he will earn a high salary at Juventus, and the Italian giants will pay a symbolic amount to Barcelona, plus performance-related bonuses in exchange for the 28-year-old forward’s services.
They want to get the deal done fast, as per Fabrizio Romano, but Memphis will not accept any termination until he assesses the offer from Juventus
