Barcelona inform young centre-back that he’s not needed, can leave permanently

Now that Barcelona have realised that Mika Marmol needs regular first-team minutes for further progression, they have informed the young defender that he leave the team on a permanent basis, reports journalist Ferran Martinez while writing for Mundo Deportivo.

Marmol, a regular fixture of Barça Atletic, has one more year left on his current contract and if he is to go out on loan, the team has insisted upon a possible renewal. This does not necessarily mean that it will improve the numbers in his current contract.

Hence, Barcelona are allowing the defender to assess what could be the best course of action for him. For that, they are not ruling out the possibility of a permanent transfer as well since they are trying to make things easier for the youngster.

Marmol’s reputation in Barça’s subsidiary is brilliant, but Barcelona know their current stack of central defender is ‘more than complete’.

This is because the likes of Andreas Christensen and Jules Kounde arrived this summer while Gerard Pique, Ronald Araujo and Eric Garcia are already in the rank too.

For now, the 21-year-old has been told to study his options carefully as there are several proposals on the table waiting for him to respond.

In that regard, Girona and Cadiz have shown potential interest while Gerard Pique’s Segunda Division side Andorra are there too. Speaking of Segunda Division, teams such as Las Palmas, Leganes and Sporting de Gijon are the other interested parties.

Given the competition there is in the market, the team that matches the salary that he earns at Barça B will potentially win the race. It must also be noted that in case of a permanent transfer, the interested team will also have the pay the transfer fee.

Meanwhile, apart from the obvious interest from Spanish sides, Greek outfit Aris Thessaloniki are quoted with an interest too. Barcelona, however, have ruled out the move as they think he can grow in a Spanish team.
