A MUST READ: De Jong ready to fight Barca in court over salary

Frenkie De Jong is angry at Barcelona over the salary saga and is ready to defend his case in court, as per Mundo Deportivo.

The midfielder feels there’s a ‘smear campaign’ against him, with Barca bigwigs trying to force him out of the club using a media charade.

Hence, the Dutchman has activated his lawyers, who have tabled the matter before the AFE (Spanish Footballers’ Association), FIFPro (representative organisation for footballers) and La Liga.

The fact is, De Jong has a contract with Barca until 2026, which means he has every right to stay until then – without a salary cut.

Barca can try to convince the player to accept a pay cut or leave, out of goodwill. They can only force him to reduce his salary if they have tenable evidence of wrongdoing in the contract he signed in 2020 – under ex-president Bartomeu.
