Barcelona have threatened Frenkie De Jong with legal action over his current contract by sending an official letter to the player last month, as per The Athletic.
The La Liga giants claim that they have found ‘evidence of criminal actions’ from the parties involved in the 25-year-old contract renewal back in October 2020.
Therefore, Barca want the Dutchman’s existing deal and go back to the contract the player was on before (signed in the summer of 2019) — or face ‘legal action’.
Meanwhile, Barcelona’s previous board (headed by president Josep Maria Bartomeu) are ‘confident in the legality’ of the deal signed by De Jong in 2019
