Barcelona are looking to find a perfect solution to finalize the signings of Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso by next week.
According to what the Spanish news outlet SPORT has reported, the Catalans are in constant touch with the players as well as their club, Chelsea, but the only thing blocking the move is the latter’s inability to find quick replacements.
For Chelsea, while they are open to the duo’s departure, their manager, Thomas Tuchel wants to bring in the reinforcement before sanctioning the sale.
For now, both Azpiliceta and Alonso have informed Tuchel that they want to leave. Such is the urge that the message was communicated by the end of last season itself when they returned to training from their respective vacations.
Tuchel knows the players are pushing for a move, but since he does not have replacements at hand, the move is blocked.
In all fairness, Chelsea have indeed lost quite a few defenders in the transfer market. This includes Andreas Christensen to Barcelona and Antonio Rudiger to Real Madrid. Hence, losing out on two first-team players will leave a huge void within the team.
As for Barcelona, Xavi has been in constant touch with the players, and he has assured them that the Catalan team will do everything in its power to find the best possible solution for everyone involved.
Xavi’s personal desire is to acquire the duo next week itself so that they can acclimatize to the new environment. However, the club is not really concerned about it since they understand both Azpilicueta and Alonso are experienced enough to undergo such a change.
The aforementioned outlet also says the players will push for their departures from Monday onwards, although they are expected to take a professional approach since they have a great deal of respect for Chelsea.
Furthermore, it’s not that Chelsea are resisting the sales. On the contrary, they will sanction those if and when they get like-to-like replacements.
