Xavi offered various conclusions as Barcelona brought their pre-season tour of the USA to an end on Saturday night, defeating New York Red Bulls 2-0, including a defence of Robert Lewandowski.
The Polish striker hasn’t scored yet for his new team during pre-season, but Xavi isn’t at all worried.
“He has been scoring in training, as the ball was going in yesterday and then today it didn’t, but it’s normal,” Xavi said of Lewandowski after the Saturday night win.
“The same thing also happened with Luis Suarez or Ferran Torres when they arrived.
“He is going to score goals, even though he brings much more than goals.
“I think Raphinha will help us a lot too, as he is a spectacular signing for this season and future ones.”
Speaking in general terms about the visit to the USA, Xavi expressed satisfaction and optimism.
“I’m very happy with how the tour has gone as we’ve worked well physically,” he said.
“Each of the matches presented different challenges and I’m happy.
“We have two more weeks until the start of the season, so we’ll train hard in order to compete well.
“We’ll try to be competitive in all competitions this season.
“I’m optimistic because of the players we have. I wish you could see how good they are in training.”
Xavi discusses the possibility of more signings
Asked if Barcelona are likely to make any more signings before the end of the transfer window, Xavi couldn’t say either way.
“I don’t if there will be more, it all depends on the financial fair play and the finances,” he said.
“There will be exits and I’ve been clear about that.
I think I’m 99 percent sure about [the final squad list] and most players know too.
“We have spoken to the players whose future we’ve decided.”
