Juventus interested in Barcelona duo, neither player wants to leave

With most of their transfer targets already in the bag, Barcelona will turn their focus toward clearing out the unwanted players from the roster.

Memphis Depay is one of the players who is deemed surplus to requirements by manager Xavi Hernandez, following the arrivals of Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha. The 28-year-old has fallen down the pecking order and has been told to leave.

Another player staring at an uncertain future is midfielder Miralem Pjanic. The 32-year-old has impressed in the pre-season, with Xavi said to be delighted with his performances. However, if he stays, chances are that he will not get a lot of minutes.

And, according to Italian publication Tuttosport (h/t Mundo Deportivo), Juventus are interested in signing Depay and Pjanic from Barcelona this summer.

Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri is a huge admirer of Pjanic and had him as an integral part of his team in Turin before the midfielder’s move to Camp Nou in 2020.

While the Bianconeri have strengthened their midfield this summer with the signing of Paul Pogba, Allegri is open to adding Pjanic to his roster, although a move would hinge on the Italians getting rid of former Barcelona midfielder Arthur Melo.

As for Depay, the 28-year-old could be seen as a replacement for Alvaro Morata who is back at Atletico Madrid after his two-year loan stint at the Allianz Stadium.

The Dutchman could be sold for €20 million but as per the report, Juventus would prefer to sign him on loan and assess his performances before making an investment in him.

While Juventus hold an interest in the pair, neither Pjanic nor Depay is particularly keen on leaving Barcelona this summer.

Pjanic recently insisted that he was looking forward to playing under Xavi at Barça, while Depay would reportedly prefer to leave as a free agent next year when his contract expires. So, whether Juventus are successful in their endeavours to sign the duo remains to be seen.
