Joan Laporta has told Caro De Las Salas, as relayed by Fabrizio Romano that “Frenkie de Jong is our player, we really like him. We received some offers for Frenkie but we didn’t accept them as of now, as we want to talk with him and know exactly what he wants”.
Frenkie de Jong’s situation has been one that’s been discussed by absolutely everyone during this current summer transfer window. The Dutchman has been considered hot property by Manchester United, who would like to have the services of the player.
There have already been multiple reports from reliable journalists that Barcelona and United have agreed on a fee of €75 million + €10 million in variables.
However, Laporta has continued to deny any such reports claiming that the club have not accepted any offers for the player as they look to keep him with the Blaugrana.
The career of de Jong at Barça has been far from a comfortable ride, as the player has more or less failed to live up to the big expectations of the club, who signed him after his super European campaign in 2019.
The reports have stated that so far the Blaugranas are definitely looking to sell the 25-year-old as they believe his restructuring of his wages during the pandemic hit 2019/20 season could hurt the finances of the club.
The Dutch midfielder is reported to be on a wage of €425,000 per week for the next season due to the restructuring, instead of his current reported wage of €300,000 per week. This could render the Catalans unable to register any of their future signings.
To avoid this, Barcelona are reported to be looking for a way out for the midfielder, where they would earn big money and also clear up their wage bill further to strengthen in other positions.
