Xavi Hernandez is confident that Barcelona will manage to make space in their salary cap so that they can register their summer signings and have them at their disposal for their LaLiga Santander opener against Rayo Vallecano on August 13.
The Blaugrana have been particularly active this summer, bringing in talented players such as Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Andreas Christensen after failing to win a single trophy last season.
However, they still have to register these players with LaLiga, including Clasico match-winner Raphinha.
“We are working on [registering the new signings] and at this stage we are very optimistic,” Xavi said after the Clasico in Las Vegas.
“I think the club are making a tremendous effort to have a very competitive squad. I think we are signing very well.
“We’re optimistic and we’ve got three weeks left. We’re pretty optimistic about this.”
Xavi’s thoughts on Barcelona’s Clasico victory
Xavi went on to discuss Barcelona‘s 1-0 victory over Real Madrid and he was happy about the result and the performance.
“In general, we’re happy,” Xavi added.
“The least important thing is the win, even if, as Barcelona fans, we really like to beat Real Madrid.
“The first half was excellent, the second half not so good. But, we are in pre-season.
“We are training well and today we saw a good Barcelona. I think we were better than Real Madrid and we played good football.
“We enjoyed ourselves on the pitch and played well. The main objective is to win titles. That’s important for us.”
Xavi praises Lewandowski
Robert Lewandowski made his unofficial Barcelona debut in the Clasico, just a few days after signing his contract with the Blaugrana, and Xavi praised his new player’s attitude.
“He is a world-class player who has scored goals all through his career and who will continue to do so,” Xavi said.
“I appreciate the humility with which he has come into the team.
“All these new players create competition and make us all better, also for me as a coach.”
Barcelona are also interested in signing Sevilla centre-back Jules Kounde. Asked whether his team should be strengthened in defence, Xavi made clear that he needs more players to beef up the squad.
